You can start writing posts in your blog immediately, but if you want the world to discover your blog, you need to do many of the technical steps to get search engines to find you. There are techniques such as advanced SEO, Twitter and other Social media feeds which will help you gain traffic.  Getting new followers to come back and revist your blog is the ultimate goal. However, getting your blog in the top page of Google’s seach ranking for your topic is the ultimate goal.

Here are some of the things you want to do from the very beginning:

    • Add Widgets
    • Add Plugins
    • Register your Site with Search Engines
    • Mention you’ve updated your blog on Social Media Sites weekly
    • Add Video weekly
    • Add Audio files weekly
    • Add Pictures weekly
    • Post weekly at a minimum

If you faithfully do these items, you will have your blog in the top 1% (1 million or less on Alexa rankings) within four to six weeks.

I have also used outsourcing techniques to drive traffic to my blogs. You have to be cautious of automatic services that promise hundreds of backlinks (your website link on other’s sites) because the major search engines will permanently ban your site if they discover you’ve done so.

A couple of the services I use for outsourcing are elance.com and fiverr.com. Again, a word of caution, fiverr has no recourse when a service provider does not perform. There was one time (out of about 20) I’ve used the site where the provider didn’t respond to my request and kept the funds. But 95% of the time I was very pleased with the service I requested.
